Anney is a multi-genre soprano, living and working in Northeast Ohio. Anney has significant training in contemporary styles including Jazz and Broadway, in addition to her study of Classical voice. Anney received a BA in Music from the University of Akron where she studied voice and piano. She is currently completing a MA in Ethnomusicology. In addition to these traditional academic pursuits, Anney has completed extensive courses and workshops in Speech Language Pathology, Singing Health, and Vocal Pedagogy.
Anney has had the experience of singing with many professional organizations including the Cleveland Orchestra Chorus, Singer's Companye (Akron) and VOCI (formally The Canton Civic Opera.) She is actively auditioning and performing in the Greater Cleveland area. She has worked both as a performer and Music Director at local theatres including Cassidy Theatre (Parma Heights), The Beck Center (Lakewood), Chagrin Valley Little Theatre (Chagrin) and Carnation City Players. Anney was also the Production Coordinator and rehearsal accompanist for Songs for a New World at SPAS Productions.
Anney teaches all levels of voice and beginning to intermediate piano and woodwinds in her studio. Anney's focus in vocal music is based on the belief that good technique can be carried to all genres and styles of singing. She works to incorporate Contemporary and Commercial Music, Belt and Singing Health techniques into her teaching method. Anney believes that focusing on the voice and the body together as an instrument makes stronger singers in all styles. She has complete all 3 levels of Somatic Voicework and additional work in Vocal Health as part of the Somatic Voicework/Lovetri Method based on the work of Jeannette Lovetri.
Anney currently holds or has held memberships to: The Voice Foundation, NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) , MTNA (Music Teachers National Association), OMEA/NAfME (Ohio Music Education Association/National Association for Music Education), ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) and SEM (Society for Ethnomusicology)
In addition to teaching privately, Anney also teaches group music classes. She has developed Songbird Music and Movement Classes for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. She pulled from her knowledge and experience teaching Kindermusik, to create unique music and movement type class. She intertwines music, dance, yoga, instruments and toys to create a fun and safe environment for our youngest students to develop a love for music.
Anney has also served as an Artist-in-Residence instructor in Jackson School for the Arts and Highland Middle School and High School, the Art and Music teacher at St. Peter Catholic School in Canton and as a Solo & Ensemble Specialist in Louisville City Schools, Mogadore Local Schools and Dover City Schools.
Director and Pianist
Anney is currently an accompanist at Louisville Middle School and High School and Mogadore Middle School and High School, in addition to accompanying her own students for events and performances. Most recently she served as Musical Director for Rubber City Theatre's Youth production of Seussical and Kismet Theatre's inaugural production of The Wizard of Oz. Anney has also served as the Music Director at The Church of the Covenant in Canton, Music Director for Akron Children's Hospital's Employee Choir, Youth Musical Director at The Beck Center and Musical Director at Chagrin Valley Little Theatre.
Fitness, Dogs and More
Anney is also a certified Zumba instructor and looks forward to adding Zumba to the services offered at Anney J Music. When not working on music, Anney is spending time with her two golden retrievers, Starr and Rorey and their cat brother Chevelle. Anney and Starr are part of the Doggie Brigade at Akron Children's Hospital and are looking forward to returning to hospital visits as soon as it is safe to do so. In addition to volunteering at ACH both as a musician/director and as a member of the Doggie Brigade, Anney is also actively involved in Anti-Racism work. She is on the coordinating committees for Heartland Conference's (UCC) Anti-Racism Network and Faith Formation Group. Anney is also about to begin a professional certificate from Fuller Seminary focused on the Church's Response to the Immigration Crisis.
